Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to find out the factors which were related to the depression among 2nd years high school students in Geoje, Korea.

Methods: The subjects were 475 high school students. Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from March 15th to April 15th, 2007. Data were analyzed by an SPSS WIN 14.0 program with Chi-test, t-test, multiple logistic regression analysis.

Results: The prevalence of depression (BDI) among the students was 14.9%. The multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the OR of depression among the students who had 1 point higher stress than the others was 1.04 (95% CI: 1.01~1.08). The OR of depression among the subjects who thought of themselves unhealthy compared to the group of healthy students was 2.64 (95% CI: 1.10~6.35). The OR of depression among the subjects who were highly satisfied with relationships with schoolmates was 2.14 (95% CI: 1.10~4.16) in comparison to the moderately-satisfied group. The OR of depression among the subjects who were satisfied with their school-life compared to the unsatisfied group was 3.95 (95% CI: 1.72~9.07). The OR of depression among the students whose monthly family-income was low in comparison to the high-income group was 2.39 (95% CI: 1.12~5.10).

Conclusions: It is recommended to develop programs for helping decrease stress, improve physical health, and promote harmony in family and school in order to decrease depression among high school students.
